How to Apply DTF UV Stickers to Hard Surfaces
DTF UV stickers, also known as UV decals or permanent adhesive DTF, are a great way to add vibrant designs to almost any hard surface. Here's how to apply them:
Materials:
DTF UV sticker
Lint-free cloth
Squeegee (optional)
Isopropyl alcohol (optional)
Instructions:
Clean the surface: This is crucial for good adhesion. Use a lint-free cloth to remove any dust, dirt, or oils from the area where you'll be applying the sticker. For extra cleaning power, especially on oily surfaces, you can use a bit of isopropyl alcohol on the cloth. Let the surface dry completely before applying the sticker.
Position the sticker: Carefully peel the sticker away from the backing sheet, holding it by the edges to avoid touching the adhesive side. Position the sticker on the desired location on your hard surface.
Squeegee the sticker (optional): For a smoother application, you can use a squeegee (a credit card can also work in a pinch). Gently squeegee the sticker from the center outwards, pushing out any air bubbles trapped underneath.
Remove the transfer tape: Once the sticker is positioned and squeegeed down, slowly and carefully peel back the clear transfer tape at an angle. If any edges of the design seem to be lifting with the tape, gently press them down with your finger while holding down the rest of the sticker with your other hand.
Tips:
Make sure the surface is completely dry before applying the sticker.
Be careful not to touch the adhesive side of the sticker with your fingers, as this can affect adhesion.
If you make a mistake while positioning the sticker, you can carefully peel it back up and try again. However, the adhesive strength may be slightly reduced with each repositioning.
For best results, allow the sticker to cure for 24 hours before exposing it to harsh elements like water or extreme temperatures.
By following these steps, you can easily apply DTF UV stickers to your hard surface products and enjoy their vibrant designs for a long time
Recommended formats to upload on our website
PNG (.png): This is a great choice for designs with simple shapes and solid colors. It supports transparency, so you can have a clear background behind your design. However, PNGs don't handle complex vector graphics well.
PDF (.pdf): This versatile format is ideal for designs with both vector elements (sharp lines, logos) and raster elements (photos, gradients). PDFs can also preserve transparency.
Preparing your artwork:
Resolution: Use a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) for high-quality prints.
Size: Submit your artwork at the exact size you want it printed on the final product.
Color Mode: Use CMYK color mode, as this is the standard for printing. RGB colors may not translate accurately when printed.
Flatten Artwork (for PDFs): If your design has layers in a program like Adobe Illustrator, flatten the artwork before saving as a PDF. This ensures all elements are preserved correctly for printing.
Fonts: Convert all text to outlines or curves to avoid font compatibility issues during printing.
Transparency: For clear backgrounds, use the PNG format or ensure your PDF preserves transparency (check your software's export settings).
Not recommended:
JPEG (.jpg): This format uses compression, which can lead to a loss of quality in your design, especially for sharp lines and text.
By following these guidelines and using PNG or PDF for your artwork, you'll ensure your DTF transfers print with optimal quality on your website.

Artwork Requirements for DTF UV Transfers:
File Formats:
- Preferred: PNG (raster format with transparent background) - This is the most widely accepted format for DTF printing due to its transparency and ease of use.
- Acceptable (with limitations):
- EPS (vector format): While vector formats are ideal for scaling without losing quality, some DTF providers may require converting them to raster (PNG) for printing. Ensure all text is converted to outlines and any effects are flattened before submitting.
- PDF (may require conversion): Similar to EPS, PDFs might need conversion to PNG. Double-check with your provider if they accept PDFs and their specific requirements.
Color Mode:
- RGB: DTF printers use CMYK inks, but submitting your artwork in RGB allows for a wider color gamut during printing.
Resolution:
- 300 DPI (dots per inch): This ensures sharp and clear prints on your transfers. Lower resolutions will appear blurry or pixelated.
Background:
- Transparent: Your design should have a transparent background to allow the garment color to show through.
White Areas:
- Leave white areas white (HEX: FFFFFF): Don't add strokes or colors to define white areas. The white ink in the transfer will create the desired effect.
Mirroring:
- No mirroring required: DTF transfers are typically applied directly, so there's no need to mirror your artwork.
Text and Fine Details:
- Minimum thickness: 0.018 inches: Lines and text smaller than this size may not print well or transfer properly. Consider using bolder fonts and simplifying intricate details.
Transparency Effects:
- Avoid: Effects like shadows, gradients, and drop shadows won't translate well during printing. Use solid colors instead.
Sizing:
- Match desired final size: Resize your artwork to the exact dimensions you want it to appear on the garment. Most DTF transfer providers won't resize your artwork for you.
General Tips:
- Double-check your artwork for any errors or inconsistencies before submitting it.
- Consult with your DTF transfer provider for any specific requirements they may have.
- If you're unsure about your artwork quality, request a test print before placing a larger order.
